The Department of Quality Research at Leibniz-Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops emphasizes plants secondary metabolism, in order to optimize the concentration and composition of health-promoting secondary plant metabolites. International collaboration granted by DFG, EU and GIZ and we have with Asian and African universities and research institutes. In collaboration with the Humboldt University, Division Urban Plant Ecophysiology, the Southern Taiwan University of Technology, AVRDC, ICIPE, NARES, and IITA the IGZ is working on the GIZ-granted project “Less loss, more profit, better health: reducing the losses caused by the pod borer (Maruca vitrata) on vegetable legumes in Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa by refining component technologies of a sustainable management strategy” (2011-2012).
